The studio booth for Jersey City's waterfront venues and converted lofts

Waterfront venues along Exchange Place, Paulus Hook and Newport are gorgeous and genuinely difficult to photograph in — floor-to-ceiling glass facing the Hudson means direct sun for half the day and almost nothing once it sets. The studio booth sidesteps the problem entirely: our own lighting rig replaces whatever the windows are doing, so a portrait taken at 3pm looks the same as one taken at 9pm.

It also travels well to the converted lofts around Journal Square and The Heights, where the appeal is closer to what we see in Brooklyn — exposed brick and high ceilings with house lighting that was never meant for a camera. We build the setup into whichever corner has clearance and power, and it's ready before your first guest walks in.

A growing share of our Jersey City bookings are corporate — Manhattan-based companies running product launches or holiday parties one PATH stop away, where the studio booth doubles as a headshot station for a team that would otherwise never sit for one. We ask for a 10ft x 10ft footprint where the venue allows it, 8ft x 8ft in a tighter loft, and a 110V outlet within 15 feet that isn't shared with the DJ or catering.

What clients say

4.9 stars from 210 Google reviews

Magic Mirror Brooklyn is Absolutely the BEST thing we added to our wedding reception! People were still talking about how much FUN they had 2 weeks after, they LOVED Vallon and his crew who made everything so much FUN, the keepsake photos were Hilarious & guests stayed WAY later than they would have because we had this UNIQUE booth! Typical photobooths have NOTHING on this Mirror. If I could give a 10 star rating..I would!

Magic Mirror Brooklyn was incredibly professional and friendly upon booking online, particularly in regards to the rental of the Mirror photo-booth. They worked tirelessly to pull off our vision and went above and beyond throughout the process. On event day, they were professional and had wonderful interactions with each guest who came to get their picture taken.

It was a pleasure doing business with Valen. He was very polite, professional and very accommodating. Him and his assistant had very good energy and kept all of our guests having fun. The table with accessories was kept neat and organized the whole evening. The booth was a big hit in my event! Would definitely hire this company again.

Questions

Studio Photo Booth in Jersey City — FAQ

Does the studio booth work in a waterfront venue with a lot of window glare?

That's exactly the situation it's built for. We bring our own lighting rig rather than relying on the room's natural light, so portraits look the same whether your venue faces the Hudson at high noon or after sunset.

Can the studio booth be positioned near the skyline windows for the view?

Yes, if there's a stable spot with power nearby — we'll work with your venue to find a location that keeps the skyline visible in the background without fighting the glare, since our lighting handles the exposure either way.

Is the studio booth good for corporate headshots for a Manhattan-based company hosting in Jersey City?

It's one of the more common reasons we get booked here. Companies running a product launch or holiday party a PATH stop from Manhattan use the session as a headshot day too, with files delivered by email before the event ends.

Do converted loft venues around Journal Square have enough ceiling height and power?

Generally yes — those spaces tend to have the exposed-brick, high-ceiling layout that suits a studio setup well. We confirm the specific outlet and footprint with your venue before booking rather than assuming.

How much space does the studio booth need?

10ft x 10ft is optimal, and we can compress to 8ft x 8ft with 7.5ft of ceiling clearance in a tighter loft or ballroom section.

Is there a travel fee for a studio booth rental in Jersey City?

No travel fee for most Jersey City venues — it's a short hop from our Brooklyn base. We quote it from your venue ZIP code before you book.

Do you carry insurance and can you provide a COI for a Jersey City venue?

Yes. We carry a $3 million liability insurance policy. If your venue needs a certificate of insurance naming them as additionally insured, reply to your booking confirmation with their contact email and we'll send it over.

How long does setup take?

About 20 minutes once we're in the room. We arrive a full hour before your scheduled start time; idle time before that is $150 per hour.
